
According to a Gartner report, India is set to see a 62 per cent growth in the sale of mobile phones. This is significantly higher than the 16 per cent growth expected globally. Gartner expects 34 million phone units to be sold in 2005 compared to the 21 million units sold in 2004. China is expected to see a demand for 85 million units in 2005 compared to the 68 million units sold in 2004. The report predicts that by 2007, China and India will together account for 200 million units. India will surpass China’s demand by 2009 to reach 139 million units.
