According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the government has received two proposals to set up semiconductor fabrication plants in the country – one from the Tata Group and the other from Israel-based Tower Semiconductor. The collective value of the proposals equals nearly about $22 billion, more than twice the $10 billion incentive amount that the government has earmarked for the chip ecosystem.

As per the minister, the government also has two big packaging proposals, one from the Tatas and the other one from a consortium which is headed by a Japanese semiconductor company.

Further, Chandrasekhar informed that the government is bullish on online gaming and will soon create a framework which will allow safe and permissible norms for the sector.
