According to a written reply by Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Minister of State for Rural Development, to the parliament, India is not privatising telecom firms Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).
He further mentioned that last month, the federal government approved an additional capital expenditure plan of 69.82 billion rupees ($800 million) for BSNL. Similarly, in February, it was reported that the government had sanctioned 60 billion rupees for the 4G network expansion of MTNL and BSNL.
