According to S Krishnan, secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), India has become the world’s second-largest mobile manufacturer, achieving an annual production value of Rs 4.10 trillion.
The production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for large-scale electronics manufacturing, introduced on April 1, 2020, offers incentives of 4 per cent to 6 per cent on incremental sales compared to a base year. Further, the government has estimated a production value of Rs 8.12 trillion during the five years in which the mobile phone PLI scheme ran, with a target of Rs 4.39 trillion, by March 2024.
