According to Dr Chandrasekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, the total number of mobile subscriptions in the country stands at 1.15 billion, as on October 31, 2024.

The minister added that the government is providing mobile coverage for inhabited, uncovered villages in a phased manner, in collaboration with telecom service providers (TSPs). Additionally, various schemes and projects are being implemented under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) to enhance telecom connectivity through the installation of mobile towers in rural, remote, and hilly areas across the country.

As per the minister, as of October 31, 5G services are available in 779 out of 783 districts in the country. Furthermore, over 0.46 million 5G base transceiver stations (BTSs) have been installed throughout India.
