
In order to improve its capital structure, Taiwanese telecommuni cations company Chunghwa Telecom is planning to free up part of its $6.4 billion capital reserves invested in government bonds.
Consequently, it will return this money to its shareholders.
Meanwhile, the company has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy Taiwan’s first universal Wi-Max (802.16e-2005) network. The new wireless broadband network will initially cover the central commercial district of Taoyuan county and is expected to help accelerate the Mobile Taiwan project, which aims to make wireless broadband service available across Taiwan.
