In a related development, DoT has restricted the number of 3G players to five per circle, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). The move is in contrast to its earlier decision of allowing 5 to 10 operators per circle for 3G services. Details of the 3G policy available so far reveal that the Delhi and Gujarat circles will have three 3G operators each, Uttar Pradesh (West) and Himachal Pradesh four and West Bengal two. The Rajasthan and the Northeast circles will not have 3G services because spectrum is not available in these regions. All other circles will have five operators each.
