In a move to become a regional telecommunications facilitator, Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has launched a fully owned subsidiary in Hong Kong, SLT Hong Kong, which will provide services such as IP transit, IP virtual private networks (IP-VPN), IP subscriber line (IPSL) and international voice traffic transit services to global telecom operators and other corporates. The subsidiary is expected to become SLT’s point of presence, connecting Asia with the rest of the world through Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, SLT is evolving its telecommunications network to a next-generation network on IP multi-protocol label switching (IP-MPLS) technology using an optic fibre backbone, which will enable it to provide multiple services on one network.
