The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) has inked a pact with Indus Towers to drive research in sustainable energy technologies. The collaboration will reportedly focus on two key areas: next-generation solar power systems and innovative energy storage solutions derived from agricultural waste.
The partnership aims to develop high-efficiency perovskite solar cells that can outperform traditional silicon-based photovoltaic (PV) cells, while maintaining cost-effectiveness. These advanced solar cells are expected to find applications in both ground-based and space-based solar systems and will be developed entirely through indigenous efforts.
The second focus area involves transforming rice straw, a common agricultural byproduct, into doped hard carbon materials suitable for sodium-ion battery anodes. These sodium-ion batteries present a sustainable and economical alternative to lithium-ion batteries, contributing to the development of a greener energy ecosystem.
