Having acquired 5 MHz of contiguous spectrum in the 1,800 MHz band in the third round of the spectrum auction, Idea Cellular plans to introduce 4G services in eight of its key revenue markets.
Following the acquisition of additional spectrum, Idea Cellular is well-positioned to rollout 4G services in eight markets which contribute about 64 per cent of the company?s total revenues. The operator plans to launch this facility in Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, and North East. The operator has acquired 10 MHz of spectrum in the Kerala circle and 5 MHz of contiguous spectrum each in the remaining circles.
The operator is expected to deploy the frequency division duplex-long term evolution technology to launch 4G service.
