
Idea Cellular has reported a 64.23 per cent increase in its net consolidated profits from Rs 4.67 billion for the quarter ended December 2013 to Rs 7.67 billion for the quarter ended December 2014. The revenues have increased by 21.2 per cent from Rs 66.13 billion in October-December 2013 to Rs 80.17 billion in the corresponding period in 2014. The earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) grew from Rs 20.52 billion to Rs 27.52 billion during the same period, with the EBITDA margin at 34.3 per cent for the quarter ended December 2014.
The increase in revenues for the operator can be attributed to the growth of its value added services (VAS) and data services along with the increase in its customer base. Together, VAS and data services accounted for 38.8 per cent of the total service revenues for the quarter ended December 2014, as against 25.6 per cent in the corresponding quarter in 2013. The data traffic for Idea Cellular grew by 125.92 per cent from 20.84 billion MB in October-December 2013 to 46.07 billion MB in October-December 2014. Meanwhile, the customer base of the operator increased from 128.7 million to 150.5 million during the same time period.
