
Idea Cellular has reported a 57.57 per cent increase in its profit from Rs 4.62 billion for the quarter ended June 2013 to Rs 7.28 billion for the corresponding quarter in 2014. This was accompanied with an increase in its gross revenues, which grew by 15.64 per cent from Rs 65.38 billion to Rs 75.61 billion during the same period.
The company?s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amotisation margins also improved from 31.8 per cent in June 2013 to 33.2 per cent in June 2014. The interest and financing costs, however, marginally increased from Rs 2.21 billion to Rs 2.34 billion.
During the quarter ended June 2014, the company carried 165.2 billion minutes on its network, registering year-on-year growth of 12.2 per cent and 32.5 billion MB of mobile data, with a year-on-year growth of 136 per cent. The average revenue per user (ARPU) improved from Rs 174 in June 2013 to Rs 181 in June 2014. Meanwhile, 3G data volume improved more than twice from 7.3 billion MBs to 15.71 MBs, and the 3G data ARPU improved from Rs 109 to Rs 142 during the same period.
The contribution of data services as part of overall service revenues improved from 7.2 per cent to 11.5 per cent, while that of VAS improved from 16 per cent to 17.8 per cent during the same period.
