Another tariff war has broken out in the Indian telecom sector. After Vodafone India and Bharti Airtel reduced 2G data tariffs by over 80 and 90 per cent respectively, Idea Cellular, too, has followed suit.
The company has reduced data tariffs to Re 0.02 per 10 KB. This will be applicable from July 2013 onwards and will be valid for 90 days.
Idea Cellular has launched this offer in the Tamil Nadu and Chennai, Karnataka, Kolkata, West Bengal, Assam, North East, Bihar, and Orissa circles. Prepaid users can avail of this offer through recharge vouchers priced at between Rs 5 and Rs 10.
Prior to this, to encourage uptake of data services, Vodafone India reduced 2G data tariffs by 80 per cent. Customers are charged Re 0.02 per 10 KB of data downloaded, from Re 0.10 earlier. Thereafter, Bharti Airtel followed suit and reduced data usage charges by 90 per cent for prepaid subscribers in Punjab and Haryana.
The operator reduced the volume based charges on recharge vouchers priced at Rs 22, Rs 25 and Rs 125. Customers are charged Re 0.01 per 10 KB of data usage, from Re 0.10 earlier.
