Idea Cellular is to finally enter the Mumbai market on its own as the seventh operator in the circle. According to news reports, the company plans to offer competitive prices. It has applied for a licence to DoT and is reportedly awaiting spectrum allocation. The planned investment in Mumbai will depend on when Idea gets its licence and spectrum since 1800 MHz band requires a higher investment.
Idea is also set to roll out services in its three “non-operational” circles ?? Uttar Pradesh (East), Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh ?? in the next five months. Meanwhile, the company plans to launch “gramin” cellphones in the Maharashtra circle (including Goa and excluding Mumbai). This is still at the concept stage.
