Aditya Birla Group?s Idea Cellular has emerged as the highest bidder in the spectrum auction, which concluded on March 25, 2015. The operator made bids worth Rs 303.06 billion.

Bharti Airtel, the country?s largest telecom services provider has emerged as the second highest bidder with bids worth Rs 291.3 billion, meanwhile Vodafone India is the third highest bidder with bids worth Rs 259.51 billion.

Incumbent operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular have been able to acquire spectrum in circles where their licenses are coming up for renewal in 2015-16. Besides reacquiring their existing spectrum, these operators have also bought additional 3G spectrum, which will help them offer pan-India mobile internet services.

In all the spectrum auctions saw government receiving total bid worth Rs 1,098.74 billion with 115 rounds of auctions. The cumulative amount received by the government is 33 per cent higher than the reserve price.
