Idea Cellular has awarded a contract to Ericsson for modernising 2G network and roll out 3G network in the Delhi circle.

The contract is reportedly estimated to be valued between $250 million and $300 million (about Rs 15 billion ? Rs 18 billion). Under the deal, Ericsson will deploy 2G and 3G network equipment, including microwave equipment and 2G and 3G radio access network (RAN) and also provide operations support systems (OSS) for RAN and Transport network. Ericsson will also provide services such as network design and supervisory managed services.

The contract will allow Idea Cellular to enhance its mobile broadband experience on its 2G and 3G networks. Idea Cellular?s 3G network in the Delhi circle will be the first in the country to be using the 900 MHz band. The company had acquired 3G spectrum in the 900 MHz band in the Delhi circle, in the auction held in February 2014.
