According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the Indian telecom industry’s revenues have increased from an aggregate Rs 377.31 billion in December 2012 to Rs 388.03 billion at the end of March 2013, registering a growth of 2.9 per cent.

Further, for the quarter ended March 2013, Bharti Airtel lost revenue share to Idea Cellular, Vodafone India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. Idea Cellular had a revenue share of 15.7 per cent for the quarter under review with an increase of 90 basis points in its market share. The operator witnessed growth of 8.5 per cent growth in voice traffic over its network. For the period under review, Vodafone India gained 50 basis points cornering a revenue market share of 22.9 per cent.

However, Bharti Airtel’s market share for the period under consideration, declined by 40 basis points. Reliance Communications’ and Tata Teleservices Limited registered a revenue market share of 7.8 per cent and 8.2 per cent with a loss of 10 basis points and 30 basis points, respectively. Operators like Aircel, Uninor, BPL, HFCL, Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited and STel collectively lost one percentage point market share.
