Hong Kong will auction its first 15-year CDMA 3G licence in November 2008 to all 3G operators. This is when Hutch’s licence allowing a 2G network based on CDMA expires. The move will ensure that international roaming customers will continue to be covered. The price of the new licence is expected to be lower than the first 3G licences, issued for about HK$1.3 billion each.
