The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has appointed Vi Business, the enterprise arm of Vodafone Idea, as implementation partner under the Guwahati Smart City initiative. Under this partnership, the GMC will provide Vi intelligent mobility solutions to Guwahati Municipal Swatch Bharat workers. The Vi SIMs that can be used with feature phones as well as smart phones, will keep GMC employees connected on Vi network and help GMC ensure safety of field staff as well as enhance efficiency of day to day cleaning operations.
The strategic focus of the government’s Smart City programme is to improve mobility, improve situational awareness, enhance public safety and security, and introduce data-driven decision making. Improved management of utilities, enhanced safety and security and unified operations through integration of functions are some of the objectives of the Smart City programme.
