According to the Cellular Operators Association of India, the GSM subscriber base in the country increased by 0.65 per cent from 674.41 million in August 2013 to 678.82 million in September 2013. In the month of September, GSM operators added 4.41 million new subscribers.

As per the industry association, among operators, Bharti Airtel leads with 193.39 million GSM users, followed by Vodafone India (155.54 million), Idea Cellular (127.22 million), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (97.17 million), and Aircel (63.24 million).

Circle-wise, the Uttar Pradesh (East) circle had maximum number of GSM subscribers ? 59.31 million ? in September 2013.  Overall, Category B circles accounted for 39.24 per cent of the GSM subscriber base, followed by Category A circles (35.04 per cent), Metro circles (11.07 per cent) and Category C circles (14.65 per cent).
