According to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), GSM mobile operators added 6.87 million subscribers in March, taking the total GSM user base to 657.21 million at the end of March 2012.
Meanwhile, company-wise, Bharti Airtel led the pack, with over 2.5 million user additions, taking its total subscriber base to 181.28 million. It was followed by Idea Cellular, which added 2.01 million users to chalk up a total user base of 112.72 million.
Uninor added 1.29 million users in the period under consideration and its total user base stood at 42.43 million, while Vodafone Essar, added 1.02 million subscribers, taking its subscriber base to 150.47 million.
On the other hand, Aircel lost 0.68 million customers and its subscriber base was at 62.57 million. Reliance Telecom added 59,829 new users to take its user base to 31.84 million.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) added 0.89 million and 62,399 million users, respectively, taking their subscriber base to 94.67 million and 5.59 million, respectively.
