According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), GSM operators added 8.87 million subscribers in January 2015. As a result, the overall user base has increased by 1.31 per cent from 670.3 million subscribers in December 2014 to 687.42 million subscribers in January 2015.

Bharti Airtel added the maximum number of users in January 2015 with 2.84 million new additions to its network. With this, its total subscriber base from 217.2 million users at end- December 2014 to 220.05 million users as of January 2015. Idea Cellular added 2.22 million subscribers during January to take its user base to 152.76 million whereas Vodafone added 1.82 million users and its overall base stood at 180.49 million at the end of January 2015.

Meanwhile, Uninor added 0.8 million new subscribers to its network to take its base to 44.49 million during the reported period whereas Aircel added 0.9 million subscribers and its subscriber base stood at 77.52 million in January 2015. Videocon Telecom and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) added 0.17 million users and 22,000 users to their networks, respectively. Further, their subscriber bases stood at 6.63 million and 3.39 million respectively at the end of January 2015.

As per COAI?s data, Bihar added the highest number of GSM subscribers with 1.45 million new subscribers.
