The government has allocated a budget of Rs 5 billion for the National Rural Internet and Technology Mission. Under the initiative, the government will impart training in IT skills in villages, especially in schools. According to the ministry, there is a need for initiatives to further narrow the digital gap between the urban centres and rural areas.

The mission is part of the Digital India programme which aims to digitally connect around 250,000 gram panchayats across the country and provide essential social services through the developed infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the government is planning to provide essential government services digitally through E-Kranti. Also, the government has focussed on supporting software product start-ups in the country.
