The empowered group for the release of incentives under the production-linked incentive scheme (PLI) for mobile manufacturers is scheduled to meet on September 9, 2022, to take a final call on the submissions of the selected companies.

According to officials in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Dixon Technologies and Samsung have submitted the paperwork regarding the production targets, while others including Foxconn and Wistron are in the process of doing so. The officials informed that the companies that have submitted the claims would be given the incentives after approval from the empowered group.

As per an industry executive, a major reason for the delay in the disbursement of incentives is the determination of factory price for mobile phones manufactured under the PLI scheme, especially for smartphone brands doing their own manufacturing, such as Samsung. This has now been resolved.
