According to Kruparani Killi, minister of state, communications and IT, the centre will spend Rs 200 billion in 2013 for laying an optical fibre cable network for providing broadband to 2,50,000 gram panchayats.
The network would be used for offering several online services pertaining to agriculture, education and health to rural customers.
Further, the government has established 100,000 common service centres across the country to provide rural customers with access to online services.
