The government has set a target to connect all Indians through the internet by 2025.

As per Rajeev Chandrasekhar, minister of state for electronics and IT, this would be done primarily through BharatNet broadband while also simplifying cyber-law for ease of doing business and focusing on technologies like quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry’s (CII) Annual Meeting 2021, he further stated that digital technologies will play a large role in the Indian economy in the next 25 years.

The minister elaborated on the role of technology which has disintermediated the financial sector in the last several years by completely transforming it and the huge impact it has had on the unified payments interface (UPI).

Further, Chandrashekhar predicted that companies with a turnover of more than Rs 50 billion would increase from 25 such companies at present to 500-600 companies in the next three to five years.
