Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman, Bharti Airtel, has said that there is a need on the government’s part to review the high taxes levied upon the telecom sector. Further, he is of the view that the government should ensure that the sector aids in growth and development but not at its own cost.
To this end, he said that telecommunication resources like spectrum and levies should not become a source for the exchequer but should become a force multiplier in ensuring that the economic momentum becomes faster and gets accelerated.
During his address, Mittal along with other industry leaders backed the goal of creating more home-grown products across sectors.
Regarding this, he said, India should take a lead in the area of local manufacturing. Appreciating the Atma Nirbhar vision of the PM, he said that it has given a clarion call to ensure that more and more value added is done in India for the telecom networks for mobile devices.
