As per industry sources, the government has kept manufacturing targets and timelines of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme unchanged. This is despite the fact that the plan was launched around two-and-a-half-months after the original timeline.

Earlier some Indian handset manufacturers had proposed the government to reconsider the targets keeping in view the delay in the launching of the plan.

However, now with no change in timelines, the task of meeting the targets seems challenging for these manufacturers as they need time to raise capital, order and import machinery and speed up construction.

The scheme was supposed to begin from August 1, 2020, however final letters to winning applicants have just been received by the companies.
