The government has undertaken a comprehensive review of the ongoing initiatives under the Bharat 6G mission, focusing on government-funded research, India’s role in global standard-setting, and the challenges facing the domestic 6G ecosystem.
The review, led by the Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, brought together key stakeholders to assess India’s preparedness to lead in 6G technology. The government reiterated its commitment to making India a global hub for next-generation telecom innovation, stressing that technological leadership in 6G is crucial to ensuring national digital prosperity and sovereignty.
The upcoming 6G technology is expected to transform sectors such as remote healthcare, smart agriculture, and precision manufacturing. 6G is also expected to unlock new capabilities, including real-time sensing, artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated networks, and terabit-level data speeds.
Further, the minister reviewed projects funded by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) through mechanisms such as the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF). He directed that regular reviews be held for major funded initiatives and called for continuous engagement with project beneficiaries to evaluate progress and address roadblocks.
