The government has received cumulative bids worth Rs 920 billion at the end of the sixth day of the ongoing spectrum auctions, which reduced from Rs 940 billion at the end of fifth day. So far, the government has conducted a total of 37 rounds of bidding.
Currently, over 83 per cent of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to the telecom operators. The telecom department has stated that there was a shift in bidding activity from 2100 MHz and 900 MHz spectrum bands to 1800 MHz and 800 MHz bands. Nevertheless, spectrum in the 900 MHz band continued to see maximum demand, especially in the Punjab, Northeast, Rajasthan and West Bengal.
In the 800 MH there was excess demand for spectrum in Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Punjab circles while the 1800 MHz band witnessed high bidding in Kolkata and Haryana circles. Demand for spectrum in the 2100 MHz band has, however, remained subdued since the auctions began.
