According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Information and Broadcasting, and Railways, the government has received 70 applications under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) within just two weeks of the application window opening.

The ECMS, which opened for applications on May 1, 2025, seeks to bridge the demand-supply gap in the electronic component manufacturing ecosystem. Out of the total Rs 228.05 billion allocated under the scheme, Rs 210.93 billion is dedicated to sub-assemblies such as camera modules, multi-layered printed circuit boards (PCBs), flexible PCBs, and passive components that are machine-fixed onto PCBs. Another Rs 171.2 billion has been set aside for the manufacturing of parts used in sub-assemblies and for capital goods essential to electronics production.

Further, the application window has been opened for categories A, B, and C for an initial period of three months from May 1, 2205, while category D will remain open for applications for two years.

The minister although refrained from naming specific applicants, however, major players such as Tata Electronics, Dixon Technologies, and Foxconn had earlier expressed interest in participating in the scheme. Vaishnaw noted that although some large companies have submitted applications, a significant share of these applications has come from small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
