The government is planning to install devices which could ensure 24X7 monitoring of electro magnetic radiation emitted by telecom towers. This will be the second level of surveillance along with the existing manual system of data collection from the telecom sites.
The monitoring devices will periodically provide data regarding radiation emitted by towers to central server where it will be analysed and used to generate reports. According to the Department of Telecommunications, with large number of telecom sites, it is necessary to install a monitoring device at these sites.
The government is in the process of conducting trials for continuous online monitoring of radiation emission in the Delhi and Mumbai circles. Telecom tower sites in the two circles are equipped with area monitoring equipment which measures radiation levels. The findings are carried on the display board at the tower sites to be viewed by the public at large.
