As per industry sources, the government is planning to launch a semiconductor design-linked incentive policy to promote domestic manufacturing as well as attract global electronic chip companies to the country.

Qualcomm, Intel, Mediatek, Infineon, and Texas Instruments are the major players who have their research and development centres in India, contributing to the development of chipsets.

This policy will envisaged to provide financial and infrastructure support to Indian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups.

To this end, the government is thinking about hosting a conference of semiconductor companies in November 2021 to discuss India’s policy roadmap in this segment.
