The government set up panel for data protection regulations has proposed the creation of a regulatory authority for data business.

The panel has said that this regulatory authority should provide centralised regulation for all non-personal data exchanges.

In addition, the panel has said that the companies should be required to disclose how they collect and store data devoid of personal details or which has been anonymised.

The panel has said such a regulator would be vested with legal powers to request data, supervise data sharing requests and settle disputes.
