Government of Rajasthan issues directions for organising district camps under the first phase of Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojna Rajasthan’s Department of Information Technology and Communication (DoIT&C) has issued directions to organise district camps under the first phase of ‘Indira Gandhi Smartphone Yojna’ from August 10, 2023. The scheme would involve the distribution of smartphones and data sim cards to 4 million women beneficiaries in the state.
Under the scheme, all the female heads of four million Chiranjeevi families will receive benefits, through direct benefit transfer (DBT). The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India authorised telecom service providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea Limited and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to provide smartphones along with data connectivity at the district and block-level camps. The beneficiaries in the first phase include female students of government schools from class 9th to 12th, female students in institutes of higher education, widow/single woman pensioners, and female heads of families completing 50 days of work under the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme. Any candidate that is not on the list issued by DoIT&C will be registered on the Rajasthan Sampark portal by dialling 181.
Smartphones will be used to inform the women about welfare schemes run by the state government for the weaker and poor sections, the security of female students, employment opportunities and schemes for students and widows.
