The government of Maharashtra has formed a 16-member task force, led by the Director of the Maharashtra Information Technology Directorate, to create a comprehensive artificial intelligence (AI) policy.

This initiative aims to establish the state as a frontrunner in AI and harness the rapid expansion of AI-driven industries. The task force includes experts from both the private sector and key government officials.

Ashish Shelar, state IT minister, emphasised the potential of AI to drive India’s $600 billion digital economy, with Maharashtra contributing an estimated Rs 6 trillion. He noted that the state’s AI policy will align with the central government’s India AI Mission, integrating it with Maharashtra’s entrepreneurial spirit and innovation.

Further, Shelar highlighted AI’s transformative potential in enhancing industries, attracting investments, and generating employment opportunities.
