
The government plans to launch the Digital India Week on July 1, 2015. The initiative is aimed at creating awareness about the role of communication and information technology (IT) in the development of the nation. The Digital India Week aims to provide an impetus to e-governance initiatives and promote inclusive growth in areas of electronic services, products, devices and manufacturing.
The Digital India Week will be led by the Prime Minister of the country who is expected to be joined by telecom and IT leaders at the launch event being organised to mark the week long initiative. Industry leaders such as Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director, Reliance Industries Limited, Anil Ambani, chairman, Reliance Group, Cyrus P. Mistry, chairman, Tata Sons, Sunil Mittal, chairman and group chief executive officer, Bharti Enterprises and Kumarmangalam Birla, chairman, Aditya Birla Group are expected to join the Prime Minister at the launch event.
The government is expecting commitments worth billions of dollars from leading industry players during the Digital India Week programme.
