According to the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM), government has identified several assets of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) for sale in the financial year (FY) 2022.
However, the timeline for the completion of the bidding process was not disclosed. According to DIPAM, the bidding process will not be completed in FY22 as there are a large number of properties. Further, it added that there will be a substantial number of assets which will be brought to bidding.
The proceeds from the sale of these assets will help the government raise money to revive BSNL and MTNL.
The asset monetisation is part of the revival plan for BSNL and MTNL, which was approved in October 2019.
