According to S Krishnan, secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the government is considering mandating local storage of artificial intelligence (AI) models to reduce associated risks and limit data outflow from the country.

Addressing concerns around Chinese AI platforms and related risks, Krishnan noted that the government is closely monitoring the use and impact of large language models (LLMs). He reiterated that the enforcement of the DPDP Act will significantly strengthen safeguards against personal data leaks.

Further, on cybersecurity, Krishnan observed a rise in incident reporting, attributing it to increased public awareness and improved national surveillance capabilities, which have enhanced the detection of cyber threats across the ecosystem.
