According to the Department of Telecommunications, the government of India has spent over Rs 11.81 billion as of January 31, 2023, for the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme which was effective from April 1, 2021. DoT noted in the monthly summary for the cabinet on important events of DoT for the month of February 2023 that the total sales from this scheme was Rs 135.41 billion while the total exports were Rs 57.4 billion.
Based on this summary, in February 2023, Bharti Airtel had as many as 19,142 5G sites, and Reliance Jio had 82,509 sites. The report also stated that 3,418 Wi-Fi hotspots were installed in the month of February and as many as 14.7 billion Wi-Fi were installed.
