According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, the government has deactivated over 8.5 million fraudulent mobile connections in the country since the launch of the Sanchar Sathi portal.

In May 2023, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) launched the artificial intelligence (AI)-driven Sanchar Sathi portal to help citizens track and block lost and stolen mobile phones. With the help of the portal, the device can be deactivated even if the new SIM card has been inserted as the device is tracked through its unique identification number (IMEI).

Vaishnaw further added that the sharp growth in cybercrime and frauds have fallen after the launch of the Sanchar Sathi portal.
