The government is reportedly considering to impose restrictions on private telecos, acquiring public assets on lease basis from China and countries sharing borders with India.
This is being considered in the case of 4Gspectrum auctioned by the government and bought by private telcos. If the government goes ahead with decision, private telcos such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea may not be able to buy telecom equipment from Chinese vendors like Huawei and ZTE.
These restrictions do not apply to procurement by private companies otherwise.
Meanwhile, the governmentis reportedly planning to examine another 275 Chinese apps for any violation of national security and user privacy.
The move follows ban of 59 Chinese apps in June 2020, amid simmering geopolitical tensions between the India and China.
