The government has blocked over 4 million fake SIM cards and blacklisted 41,000 fake point-of-sales (PoS) agents to curb cyber fraud.
According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal has helped check spam calls and cyber frauds. . He urged that the users prevent such cases by not attending calls from unknown numbers, as cyberscamsters cannot hack into devices that are not picked up on the call.
Meanwhile, the number of international spam calls on WhatsApp continues to grow, with the company reporting to have blocked over 3.6 million mobile connections in recent months.
