The government has banned an additional 118 Chinese apps, including PUBG and Baidu, citing them to be security threats.

This takes the total count of China-linked mobile apps banned by India to 224.

As per the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), it had received complaints regarding the misuse of apps available on Android and iOS for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data to servers that were located outside India.

Further, the government added that the decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security, and sovereignty of the Indian cyberspace.

The development follows fresh tensions between India and China earlier this week.
