The Union Cabinet has approved the applications of 27 manufacturers under the production linked incentive (PLI) Scheme 2.0 for IT hardware. This will allow manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. to manufacture in India. This scheme covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, servers and ultra-small form factor devices.

This decision is expected to provide benefits including:

  • Employment of about 200,000 individuals
  • About 50,000 (direct) and 150,000 (indirect)
  • Production value of IT hardware to reach $42 billion
  • Companies investing up to $360 million

According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and Railways, 23 out of 27 approved applicants are ready to start manufacturing on day zero.
