The government has appointed K Rajaraman, chairman, the Digital Communications Commission, and secretary (Telecommunications), Department of Telecommunications (DoT), as the next chairman of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). Rajaraman will succeed Injeti Srinivas in this post.
Rajaraman will be the chairman for a period of three years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or till attaining the age of 65. He will likely assume the position in August 2023.
Rajaraman has served as the additional secretary (investments and infrastructure) in the Department of Economic Affairs, as joint secretary in the Department of Expenditure and held key positions in the Tamil Nadu government prior to this. He is considered the driving force behind the Bharat 6G Alliance and also brought several startups to work in the area of next-generation technology. Rajaraman played a crucial role in the rolling out of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) 4G network, backed by Indian telecom equipment, following rigorous field testing and trials.
