According to Kantar WorldPanel survey, Google?s Android smartphone software has continued its market lead in 2012.

It has managed to do so by providing its software support to the new models launched by handset makers such as Samsung and HTC.

As per the research findings of Kantar WorldPanel survey, Google?s Android has gained a significant market share in seven markets, namely, Australia, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US. The data confirming Google?s Android lead spans 12 weeks upto mid April, 2012.  

In Spain and Italy, Google?s Android market share has more than doubled on a year-on-year basis to 72 per cent and 49 per cent respectively, while it has almost doubled to 62 per cent in Germany.

As for the Apple software, the strong demand for the iPhone 4S has helped the second best software provider to narrow the gap with Android in the US and Britain. However, there has been a slide in the market share for the Continental Europe region. 

As per the research findings Windows? share in Germany has more than doubled to 6 per cent over the past year, it has gone up by 3 to 4 per cent in Britain, France, Italy and the US.

Both Nokia?s Symbian platform and Canadian BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM), have lost significant market shares during the period under review.
