As per industry sources, Google has promoted Prabhakar Raghavan as the new head of search and assistant. He would replace Ben Gomes, who would take on a new role in various Google education and learning initiatives.

Prior to this, Raghavan was heading ads and commerce segments since 2018.

Before joining Google, he was working with Yahoo, where he even founded the research lab. He had joined the company in 2005. At Yahoo, he worked on search, ad ranking, ad exchanges and marketplaces. Raghavan also worked for IBM’s research arm for many years and has co-authored two textbooks on algorithms and information retrieval.

Meanwhile, Jen Fitzpatrick who has been with Google’s Geo team for more than a decade and took over as its head six years ago, has now exited Maps/Geo to run the company’s central engineering team, which employs 8,000 people.
