In a response to the government’s provisions of Information Technology (IT) rules, Google and Facebook have expressed their readiness to comply with the rules.

The government’s revised IT rules will come into effect from May 26, 2021.

According to industry sources, the government is yet to decide on granting an extension of the deadline for compliance. In this regard, Facebook has said that it aims to comply with the revised IT rules even as it continues to discuss a few of the issues which need more engagement with the government.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has filed a case against the government’s revised IT Rules. The case was filed in the Delhi High Court on May 25, 2021. As per the rules, firms like Whatsapp will have to trace the origin of particular messages sent on the service.
