The Goa government has set up a task force to increase the efficiency in telecommunication including dealing with network and internet connectivity issues.

The task force was set up by chief minister Pramod Sawant as part of a set of recommendations made by the Economic Revival Committee. The committee suggested ways and means to jump-start the industry, in view of the economic slowdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The task force will have representatives from concerned departments of information and technology.

Meanwhile, in a recently held meeting, the government discussed several issues persisting in the sector including the need for single-window clearance and single-point of contact, preparing a roadmap for better communication, challenges of optical fibre cables etc.

That apart, the Goa government is also considering to allow telecom companies to set-up mobile towers on government property citing the hardships faced by operators in setting up towers in residential and other areas.
